Bristol East MP Kerry McCarthy
were among supporters of ECPAT UK (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and the Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes) who handed over the 735,889-name petition at 10 Downing Street yesterday.
The petition was started in July by the campaign and the Body Shop, calling for greater protection of child victims of trafficking.
The Stop Sex Trafficking of Children and Young People Petition campaign has also been supported by Bristol West MP Stephen Williams, along with celebrities including Nicole Kidman and Jamie Oliver.
Christine Beddoe, ECPAT UK director, said: “We call on the Prime Minister to listen to our petition call for change and ensure that a system of guardianship for all child victims of trafficking is introduced as soon as possible.”
Petitions have also been launched by counterparts in 49 other countries.
